This past Halloween, Lasell, Regis College and Brandeis University collaborated at Regis College for the Blacktober Party on Oct. 25. Spearheaded by the Lasell Black Student Association (BSA), the Brandeis Black Student Organization (BSO) and the Babson Black Student Union (BSU), this event was one of a kind and it took the collaborative effort of all three schools to make it happen.

Lasell BSA President Darius Vincent said that the Brandeis BSO president brought up the idea to him and that’s when work started.

“Collaborating with each other will help more than it will ever harm,” Vincent stated. Vincent and the rest of the BSA’s response to Brandeis was a resounding yes. Details were provided to the BSA and Lasell was also informed on what was needed in order to have the party.

A big part of the process was transportation, as figuring out how to get Lasell students to Regis College was one of the bigger hurdles. This was solved by having someone at the school get van certified, which then led to a transport van driving back and forth from Lasell to Regis. Each van took around 10-20 minutes to get to Regis. The @LasellBSA Instagram account periodically posted on its story to inform students of when the van would arrive and where it would be.

The event itself had a splendid atmosphere. Regis accommodated each school very well, and it would seem that students had a great time. There were plenty of people in costume, from creepy slashers to fun television show characters.

The DJ provided good music which helped to create more excitement. This was a good opportunity for students from all three schools to con- verse and share common interests. The entire LasellBSA executive board was present, and it was clear they were all proud of the event. If this event is any indication, future events and collaborations between the schools should no doubt be on the calendar. In the meantime, the Multi- cultural Student Union and LasellBSA hosted the annual Rep Your Flag event on Nov. 16 in Arnow Campus Center. Lasell UNIDOS was in attendance. This year’s theme is Carnival Gone Dark.
