Born in Roxbury and of Trinidadian descent, Darius Vincent is a junior at Lasell University with a brilliant mind and expressive personality. While being the current president of the Lasell BSA is at the top of the list, he has his hands in many different organizations and clubs across campus.
Junior captain of the track and field team and psychology major Jordan Woodley described him as someone “who is an attentive leader, while also being a person that is led by good morals.”
To be a little more personable, Vincent is an experienced resident assistant. He devotes much of his time daily to helping his residents when asked and making sure that their needs are being met. Vincent lets his creativity run wild when creating poster boards and finding new ways to make his residents feel welcome. A big part of Vincent’s personality is making sure everyone is included. On the Rockwell side of campus he has worked tirelessly to make sure that everyone feels they are part of a community within Lasell.
Some of his lesser known interests are football, basketball, video games, frisbee, and swimming. Vincent also loves to support the various sports teams at Lasell and their players. He can sometimes be spotted at volleyball, basketball, and soccer games.
He always takes his own athletics seriously also. Members of the track and field team have expressed their love for Darius and their desire to be around him. “Darius is a great person who leads by example and who is an all-around solid man,” senior captain of the track & field team and criminal justice major Max Corson stated.
Andrew Chabon, interim head coach of the men’s and women’s track and field and cross country teams, has worked with Vincent since he began coaching at Lasell in 2023.
“Darius is a friendly face who always puts smiles on peoples’ faces when he enters a room. He is hard-working and dedicated to everything he works on and is passionate about, sometimes to a fault,” Chabon said. “As a member of the cross country and track & field teams, he has made tremendous personal growth over the last year, and that has been very clear both on and off the track, and I can’t wait to see how he continues to grow for the next year and a half that I’ll have with him.”
Some of Vincent’s other contributions to the Lasell community in addition to the track and field team, also include being a part of the Black Men’s Group, Blue Key Society, and the Athletic Diversity Equity and Inclusivity Committee. Vincent is an influential member of the student body, but he doesn’t usually make that known himself.
Vincent isn’t one to make his impact on the Lasell community well known, but the effects he has on everyone here could not be more impactful. Vincent has worked with groups like the Multicultural Student Union and Lasell UNIDOS to create events for all students to enjoy.
He has important ties to people in high positions at neighboring institutions which help to create events at other locations too. One such event being the recent Blacktober Party that took place on Oct. 25 at Regis College, which allowed for students from Lasell, Brandeis University and Regis College to come together and have fun. Another was the recent Rep Your Flag event, held here at Lasell.
Above all of this, Vincent wants the people of Lasell to understand how he impacts the community and how much it means to him to see people have a great time. Not many know, but beneath his calm appearance is an energetic friend who lights up whatever room he enters.
“He has a welcoming demeanor, and he is a big part of the community. He also wears many hats on campus,” junior biology major Alex McFarlane stated.
Vincent is welcoming to all, and he’ll never hesitate to strike up a conversation with you. To those who have never met him, Vincent is described as a person who knows how to bring together a community. He is someone you can look up to, and his value to the Lasell community is immeasurable. Vincent is someone who embodies what it means to be a Laser.
