With the seasons changing, it is time to fall back into love with reading! Whether you’re looking for contemporary literature or gothic fantasy, a standalone or a series, this list will have something for you. With fall in full swing, there is no better pairing than a book to enjoy chilly fall day, or accompany you with a visit to a coffee shop, and these recommendations may help you to find your new favorite read.

“Lady Macbeth” by Ava Reid — A feminist gothic fantasy retelling of “Macbeth,” where one of Shakespeare’s most iconic villainesses takes control of her story and is given a voice she is unafraid to use. In this story, an already incredibly intriguing character is given even more depth and ambition.

“Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead” by Emily R. Austin — In this queer contemporary literature story, readers will laugh and cry with Gilda—a twenty-something lesbian atheist—who finds herself accidentally working in a church all the while trying to conquer her fear of death and learning to cope with her self-sabotaging tendencies.

“Normal People” by Sally Rooney — A coming of age story that follows two Irish teens whose lives seem endlessly intertwined, yet never seem to catch each other at the right time. In this novel, readers are forced to look into the intricacies of beauty and heartbreak that make up young love and the sacrifices that come alongside it.

“Vicious” by V.E. Schwab — The first book in an adult urban fantasy series, “Vicious” follows two college roommates who slowly spiral and become each other’s worst enemies. Readers are left pondering what makes someone good or evil, and just how the ambition for power can lead to a person’s downfall.

“Hymn of the Night” by Jo Grospierre — “Hymn of the Night” is the debut novel from writer Jo Grospierre, and is the first in a young adult fantasy trilogy. In this beautifully imagined world, Meraki is forced to face the repurcussions of her past in order to fight for a brighter future for the people she loves. The second book of the series comes out in November of this year.
