Mason Cole - Reeses:
This may be a little biased, as I have grown up on Reese’s my entire life, but I do not think it is even close to any other candy. I have always said that the combination of chocolate and peanut butter was sent from the gods and has a destiny of being delicious; although that may be an understatement.
You of course have candies that can hold their own like Twix, Snickers, Crunch, and M&Ms, but, to me, nothing matches the pure joy that I’d get from looking down in my candy basket after going trick-or-treating and seeing a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup inside.
The cultural impact that Reese’s has had is also enormous, from their rise in popularity through the release of the 80s hit movie “E. T. The Extra-Terrestrial” or the iconic commercial from the 2000s for the Reese’s Puffs cereal where a rap/hip-hop jingle was playing over it.
People have fallen in love with the versatility and effectiveness of the iconic Reese’s peanut butter and chocolate flavor, which, again, is what I always refer to as “God’s Perfect Combination.” I forever hope that, even with the recent pro-health and healthy dieting movements of the 2010s and 2020s, Reese’s will remain a staple in the lives of millions of children and adults throughout the United States and the rest of the world. Reese’s remain on top!
Owen Kwet - KitKat:
KitKat is an absolute top-five candy for me. It has everything that a good candy bar needs; the smooth, creamy milk chocolate, combined with a cookie crunch, makes for snack heaven. If peanut butter and chocolate were unavailable to you, that can be seen as a good thing, because there are cookies and chocolate right next to it. The name itself just speaks volumes. It is satisfying to say the name because of the hardness of the “T” at the end, and the hard crack of the candy when you break it apart.
I don’t want to forget the international success of this confection. It is a popular candy in Japan, with a variety of atypical flavors like matcha green tea, orange, sweet potato, and even sake-infused. It is a culinary adventure that is waiting to be explored. Not only is it good to have a KitKat by yourself, but also with a friend, by just simply breaking it into pieces, it is instantly transformed
into a snack for two. It is a great way to share a memory or to strengthen a friendship.
I think KitKats are perfect for anyone who is not a fan of peanut butter or has a nut allergy. The cookie crunch is incomparable to a Reeses, let alone any other candy. Every time I see a KitKat in the candy bowl while trick or treating, I rush to take one immediately, and possibly even more than one because of how much I love it. Do not give up on KitKats!
