Lasell Community Television (LCTV), is a small, interactive club that provides a creative space for those passionate about video production. Whether students are interested in working behind the scenes or stepping in front of the camera, LCTV offers connected learning opportunities to help develop media skills. This club provides students with the ability to practice operating cameras, scriptwriting, editing, sound design, and lighting, as well as working on building confidence in front of a camera.
LCTV has experienced some challenges due to their small size. Having a limited number of people on the production teams makes their production more difficult, however, even with such a small team, the involved students are dedicated to making high-quality content and improving the club in any way possible.
On March 4, LCTV hosted a premiere event for their new series, “Ghosted” in Yamawaki Auditorium. The idea for this series came from sophomore entertainment media major Gwendalyn Baublitz, when she heard a disembodied whisper in her ear after returning early to campus for field hockey. This encounter left her curious and led her to explore Lasell’s history of ghostly encounters and paranormal activities.
As she dug deeper, Baublitz discovered that she was not alone in this experience. Other students had similar stories of unexplainable experiences happening on campus. Inspired by her fascination with ghost-hunting shows and driven by these occurrences on campus, she realized she had the perfect opportunity to create her own series through LCTV.
With the premiere's success, Baublitz plans to continue “Ghosted,” with another episode this semester and more next year. Eventually, she hopes to make a documentary about Lasell’s history for its 175th anniversary.
Baublitz encourages anyone with an interest in television, content creation, production, or entertainment, whether as a career path or just a hobby, to get involved with LCTV.
“Joining freshman year was one of the best things I have done at Lasell,” Baublitz said. “I have learned so much. The opportunity to make my own show is so amazing. Making ‘Ghosted’ has taught me so much about every aspect of the production and promotion process.”
“Ghosted” is streaming on YouTube and can be found in LCTV’s channel, “Lasell Community Television.”
If students are interested in getting involved in LCTV, they are encouraged to email President Emily Cerasani to get put on the email list, or DM @lasellcommunitytv on Instagram.
