Campus Activities Board’s (CAB) annual Spring Week will take place this year from April 14-18. Each day of Spring Week, different events are held for students to enjoy.

To wrap up Spring Week, a musical artist is brought onto campus to perform at de Witt Hall for the annual spring concert.

This year, the spring concert will be headlined by Mason Ramsey.

Ramsey first gained notoriety in 2018 for his rendition of “Lovesick Blues,” a song by Hank Williams, at an Illinois Walmart. Within a couple of days of his performance, the video was posted online and gained over 25 million views, making Ramsey an internet sensation.

Since his viral moment in 2018, Ramsey has started making and producing music of his own and will embark on a tour across the country in April. Ramsey will make a stop on his tour in Boston at the Paradise Rock Club on April 16.

There is also an opening act for Ramsey, an improv comedy rap group called Free Daps, who CAB members saw perform at the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) this past fall.

Vice President of the Laughs and Crafts Committee for the Campus Activities Board, Carlie Leavitt booked the Free Daps to perform this year at the Spring Concert.

“They were a pretty interesting performer, and I was looking to kind of link them in as sort of the comedian side of Spring Week as well. They're definitely something new, we're breaking out of the box this year,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt wanted to pair the Free Daps with an artist that would match the image Campus Activities Board wanted to promote, and Leavitt lined up Ramsey to complete the pairing.

“I think he just brings a different energy on this campus that we haven't had in a while. And we're looking to switch things up. And I felt like it's a very fun pairing that I think people would be very interested in,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt is also looking forward to hearing Ramsey’s different music style that hasn’t been played on campus, “I know there's people on campus who listen to country. I know there's people on campus who listen to all types of music. And I've just heard people talking about him, with his concert coming up in Boston. I'm just sitting back here twiddling my thumbs, [thinking] ‘We'll see if this will happen. Just wait,’” Leavitt said.

The spring concert will take place in de Witt Hall on April 18 at 8 p.m. For a full list of events that CAB will host during Spring Week, visit their Instagram, @lasellcab.
