Here at Lasell University, many students bring unique backgrounds and talents to campus, but few shine as brightly as Saige Cambonga-Meyers. Born and raised in the tropical paradise of Hawaii, Saige's journey has taken her across the country, shaping her into the driven and dynamic person she is today. Now a dedicated student majoring in global studies and a key player on the women's volleyball team, she continues to make her mark both on and off the court.
Growing up in Hawaii, Saige naturally found a love for the beach and a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. At the age of 13, she experienced a major life transition when she moved to Arkansas, an eye-opening change that broadened her perspective of the world.
“Transitioning from Hawaii to Arkansas was really difficult at first because everyone I knew and loved was there,” she said, “As a person of color moving to a white dominant state, [the move] wasn’t really hard because the city I moved to is really diverse, which was good for me, but I did have some minor incidents with racism.”
While she describes herself as a chill and introverted person, Saige’s warmth and personality uniquely shine through once she gets comfortable. Whether she’s spiking volleyballs or enjoying downtime with friends, her balance of athleticism and relaxed energy makes her stand out.
Off the court, Saige has an undying passion for music. With a love for R&B/Soul, reggae, hip-hop and pop, her playlist is always full of lively beats. As of right now, she’s hooked on 30 for 30 by SZA, a song that perfectly encompasses her laid-back yet thoughtful nature.
When she's not pouring into her volleyball career or deep in her studies, she enjoys unwinding by binge-watching movies and TV shows. Right now, she’s watching The Rookie, a show that keeps her entertained while she enjoys the comfort of her cozy dorm.
Another key part of Saige’s identity is her love for food. As a self-proclaimed foodie, she has a special appreciation for Asian cuisine, savoring dishes that remind her of her roots while also exploring new flavors. Whether she’s traveling or simply trying out a new local spot around campus, food remains one of her greatest joys.
“Personally, I would love to travel to Asia and eat at their convenience stores because the food there just looks so good,” she said.
With her interest in global studies, Saige’s curiosity about the world extends beyond just traveling and food. She’s interested in different cultures, international relations, and broadening her understanding of the world. Combined with her love for sports, music and the beach, she represents the perfect blend of dedication, curiosity, and fun.
Saige Cambonga-Meyers is more than just a student or an athlete. Saige is an ambitious and vibrant individual who brings a unique energy to Lasell University. Whether she’s playing volleyball, discovering new music, or sharing laughs over a good meal, she embodies the spirit of a Laser.
