Track and Field avoiding hurdle of coaching changes

Lasell’s track and field team is currently undergoing leadership changes after Head Coach Ben Biello and Assistant Coach Phil Panebianco resigned. Last year, the two coaches helped to foster success at both meets and practices. The departure of these two has been met with many emotions and questions, but the team continues to put its best foot forward on the track.

“He will be missed, but the team as well as myself look forward to going against him and his new team during the year,” junior sprinter Darius Vincent stated.

Coach Biello joins Regis College’s Track and field team as its head coach, and this rivalry between the Lasers and the Pride will be one to monitor as the season progresses. While the Lasell athletes greatly respect Biello, it won’t stop them from fiercely competing against his new squad.

Without Biello and Panebianco in the building, Interim Head Coach Andrew Chabon will have the opportunity to prepare the Lasers for their upcoming season. Sophomore sprinter Jordan Woodley says that he “knows that the team will bounce back,” and that “[everyone] will continue to be the superstars I believe everyone to be.”

Similarly, junior sprinter Maddie Ebbinghaus says she is excited to see where the team is heading.

“I have a good feeling about the upcoming season,” Ebbinghaus said. “We have been very motivated with clear goals in mind.”

The team appears ready to start a new journey. And while it is reasonable to expect some hiccups along the way, it is evident that the Lasers are excited to begin competing in December.

“We all know that a coaching staff doesn’t define the performance or what we do on or off the track,” said sophomore runner Luigi Gentile. “We all come together to perfect our craft and be better runners, teammates, and leaders here at Lasell.”
