Lasell UNIDOS is one of the newer clubs here at Lasell, and it is led by sophomore President Angely Estrada and sophomore Vice President Luigi Gentile.

The club’s purpose is to bring together Latine students across campus with the vision of celebrating culture, building a beautiful community and making long-lasting connections with each other. Creating a club can be very difficult, so Estrada and Gentile’s ambitiousness is worth noting.

Lasell UNIDOS was a process that took careful consideration and strategic planning of its goals to become reality. In the words of Gentile, what inspired him and Estrada to create UNIDOS is that they wanted to “Create a new and unique idea of community at Lasell within the Latino community.”

The Latine community had yet to be represented in this specific way at Lasell until UNIDOS arrived. Another goal was to have a place that the Latine community could identify with and have a connection to.

The executive board includes other members, including sophomore Nate Gonzalez, freshman Antonela De La Cruz, sophomore Ximena Mendoza, and junior Aiyana Mercedes. Gentile expressed his confidence in the executive board and the group as a whole.

Lasell UNIDOS has plenty of goals for future events, one being a Hispanic game night. This was described as being a night where the club plays various Hispanic games that can be taught if needed. Other events related to Hispanic culture are in the works. The Black Student Association (BSA) and Multicultural Student Union (MSU) are some of the clubs that were the inspiration for Lasell UNIDOS.

Those who had a hand in creating the club want this one to be- come a household name within the Lasell community even after today’s executive board graduates. Members of UNIDOS find motivation to grow the club from ideas and questions for future events.

Lasell UNIDOS wants the community to know that they shouldn’t be afraid. Students should not be afraid to be involved with the club no matter who you are. One does not have to be Hispanic to be involved in UNIDOS events, as the club wants all students to see different cultures and the idea of the Hispanic community on full display. The main goal of Lasell UNIDOS is for everyone to see who they are as people, and if previous events are any indication, the UNIDOS name will only get larger.
